Optometrist
Duties and Responsibilities: Some of the daily things that optometrists do are,
- Perform vision tests and analyze results
- Diagnose sight problems
- Prescribe eyeglasses, contact lenses, and medications
- Provide treatment such as vision therapy
- Promote eye health by counseling patients
Salary: The median annual wage for optometrist was $97,820. The lowest 10 percent made less than $52,590. Meanwhile the top 10 percent made more than $184,530.
Education: Optometrists need a Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree.Applicants to O.D. programs must have completed at least 3 years of postsecondary education, including coursework in biology, chemistry, physics, English, and math. Most students get a bachelor’s degree before enrolling in a Doctor of Optometry program.
Demand on need for this profession: Employment of optometrist is projected to grow 24 percent from 2012 to 2022. Since it is a small occupation the growth will result in about 8,100 new jobs during the job growth.
Reflection? I would not like to work in this occupation. This does not interest me at all so i would not like to work in this. Working in something that has to do with the eyes seems boring me although some people may like it.
